Inquiry

"A living thing consumes, grows, breathes adapt to its environment and perishes."
                                                                                                       Room 8,2015

My project was on beans and how long it took different varieties of beans to grow.
I got most of my information from the Wikipedia but I got some from a bean web site.
I did most of it by myself but Dallas helped me stick everything onto my cardboard.
I have learnt that beans should be planted in late Summer.
My favourite fact about beans is that some beans pods can be eaten.

I think that the next time I do a project I could get it done faster and add props to go along with it.

Outdoor Education

WALT: set up and sail optimist yachts.
The first thing we had to do was get dressed into our clothes that we we're going  get wet. After that we got the yachts and started to assemble them after a quick lesson.
Every part of the assembling of the boat we had to do was really easy except when the booms rope wasn't tight enough.
My favourite part about the optimist yachting was probably capsizing the whole boat even though my eye got whacked by the boom. I really  liked optimist yachting and I look forward to doing it again.

Values Pride

This is mine and my friends video for our value this term Pride.

Fitness and Nutrition with Karen

WALT: keeping ourselves fit and healthy.

For term 3 we have been learning about keeping ourselves fit and healthy with Karen Cross. We did workouts that she turned into games. One of my favourite things about the sessions was that we played games but still did fitness. She taught us about how to keep fit and always do regular workouts. In nutrition we have to not have drink lots of fizzy or probably not any at all.
Things that I didn't know before we did fitness.

You have to drink at least eight litres of water a day.
Stretch before and after your workouts.
Workout regularly.
Eat and drink good after a workout.
Bananas are good for you before and after your workout.

Writing

WALA spring.

This is my poem about spring.

Sunshine evaporating the cold days
Pollen falling everywhere causing sniffles and sneezes
Random weather all the time
In between winter and summer
Nature will start to grow
Grass is gettin greener by the minute.
We have made butterflies using symmetry and we decorated them with dye.

India celebrates spring with a festival of colours where they throw powdered colours with water
at each other.

Maths

WALT: Find the average temperature for the five day forecast.

To find the average temperature for the five days I had to add all the temperatures together.

The total of all the temperatures is  47 degrees Celsius.

The next step is to divide the total by the number of days.

47 divided by 5 is 9.4

The average temperature is 4.7 degrees Celsius.

Reading

WALA the Moa.
We researched facts about the Moa. I used Pic Collage to present my facts.

What I found interesting about the Moa was that it didn't have wings.

WALT: learn our Kapa Haka actions and not make them sloppy😅.

Tech

Reading Workshops Learning

WALA: The six thinking hats and putting them to use.

                  Bad things that happened

  • The Veteran games are coming soon and things are starting to boil up between rugby heads and politics and marchers.

  • The New Zealand government gave the South Africans passports and visas under Dutch.

  • The South Africans arrive in New Zealand and lots of people are angry and give the boks  a hard time at the airport.

  • Martin goes to his new school. He is feeling nervous when he goes to his class because he sees kids talking about the boks coming to New Zealand. Martin meets a guy called Pete and Pete thinks that the Springbok tour should be canceled then one of the kids who was talking about the boks coming to New Zealand came and shoved over Pete for saying that the tour should be canceled. The guy who shoved Pete over was a rugby head.

  • Sarah leaves home and Tom's Mum leaves home too and Tom is left only with his dad.

  •   Sarah gets bashed in the head and her mum thinks she had a fractured skull.

  • Grant Mathewson told Mr Mortlock what was happening with the scat group and what they were going to do.

  • Lots of people got hurt during all of the marches.

  • Three men get arrested and go on a hunger strike.

  • Dad had a rage at a protestor   and was in the paper.

The Six Thinking Hats

WALA:These are De Bonos six thinking hats. The black hat asks what are the weaknesses? The White hat asks what information is needed? The red hat asks how you feel about it right now? The green hat asks what is possible? The blue hat asks what do we do next? And the yellow hat asks why will it work?

Novel Study

WALT: Use the thinking hats to pull apart a novel.
Why: Think from different perspectives.

This is my favourite because I got to write a lot of information. It was a bit easy to because Martin has a pretty depressing life. The hat I used was the black hat. The black hat represents negativity.

Writing

We are learning to write a formal letter.
We wrote to the Hastings District Council and wet old them our opinion about the changing speed limit from Hastings to Clive.
The speed limit was being changed back to 100kph which I agree with because it gets kids to school faster.

The Treaty of Waitangi Research

WALT: summarise our research into our own words and list our sources
